Brianna Mason was crowned
Miss Tennessee 2019 on June 29, 2019 at UT-Knoxville's Thompson Boling Arena. This is a historic win as she is the first African-America to win the title. She represented our state at the Miss America Competition on December 19, 2019. She has won over $35,000 as a participant in the Miss America Organization. Brianna is a native of Nashville, Tn. She is a 2013 gradate of Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, TN. She is University of Tennessee-Knoxville alumnus having received a B.A. Degree Psychology in 2017 and a Masters of Science in Elementary Education in 2018. She was a Charles Lattimore Graduate Scholar with the College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences at UTK and a part of the selective Urban Multicultural Education Cohort. She was the recipient of the Russell E Leed Scholarship and the Alex Haley Scholarships. Brianna continued her family’s legacy as an educator this past year as a first grade teacher at Hobgood Elementary School in Murfreesboro, TN
Brianna’s social impact initiative is very near and dear to her heart. Wanting to advocate for a close family friend, she founded of Advocates for Autism a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to raise awareness to include, inform, collaborate and celebrate individuals and families that are affected daily by Autism. One of Advocates for Autism many initiatives that she’s especially proud of is having started collegiate chapters to raise awareness and support students on campuses across the state. She is the official State Ambassador for Autism Tennessee and a partner with the Tennessee Council on Autism Spectrum Disorder. In addition, she partners with agencies across the state to provide resources and create inclusive sensory-free spaces for people living with Autism.
As Miss Tennessee 2019, Brianna will serve as the official Spokesperson for Reading Literacy and the Whole Child Initiative with the Tennessee Department of Education. In addition, she will be the state representative for the Miss America Organization’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partnership, serving all five of Tennessee’s CMN Hospitals. In her spare time, she loves to play the piano, travel, and cheer on her beloved Vols!
