Miranda is a 2018 graduate from Rhodes College where she earned her B.S. in Neuroscience and a Minor in Theatre. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Mercer University where she will work on earning her PsyD in Clinical Psychology. She hopes to be able to specialize in Neuropsychology and work with children who suffer from neurological and psychological disorders.
This passion arose from her own experience being diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome (TS) in college. This disorder usually manifests in childhood, but frequently goes undiagnosed. For reference, it is currently estimated that up to 1 million individuals in the U.S. suffer from TS, but over half go undiagnosed. TS is an extremely misunderstood disorder and media frequently plays up negative stereotypes associated with it. Symptoms exist on a spectrum and can range from mild to extreme. Every case is unique! Miranda is using her platform as Miss Reelfoot to educate people on the realities of living with a tic disorder and how to increase accurate diagnosis in children.
Outside of school and Miss Tennessee, she is Company Manager for Weightless Entertainment Company where she works as an aerial hoop performer, stilt walker, staff/flag spinner, and as a mime. It is definitely one of the more unique aspects of her life, but she loves that this job allows her to perform for people all over! She also currently works as the personal assistant to the President of Rhodes College.
Miranda is the proud mom of a rescue pup named Maka. Maka is a mega-mutt and no one, even the vet, is quite sure what breed she is. She is also a lover of theatre and has been acting since she was in the 5th grade. Her favorite playwright is William Shakespeare and she was lucky enough to spend a Summer abroad studying at the Globe Theatre in London during college.
